On a Wednesday, I saw a taxi line extending out of SFO to the freeway. This translates to there being a huge slowdown in the number of available taxi fares to the drivers. To own a taxi medallion in many cities the driver is out hundreds of thousands of dollars. The driver is required to be trained, licensed, the vehicle commercially insured, plainly marked with lettering identifying it as a taxicab and to be properly equipped with a meter that is regularly checked by the department of weights and measures. All an UBER driver has to do is get a car and a printout of his driving record. Hold the phone ladies and gentlemen. This is unfair competition. Your cab driver had to jump through a lot of hoops to get there. It is time to show a little respect.
